Keep your hands off my web! – When Social Web becomes Social Tissue – Agree, every technology can be used for both good and evil. Progress in technology isn’t dangerous, but denying or not embracing it is.
Sacrifice Is Overrated – I get a feeling this author believes that being rich or poor is a choice. There are really no good reasons to believe that this is the case. Being (or have the opportunity to become) rich is luck, not skill. Being poor, well that’s just about as much luck most people have. Being rich or poor is about as much of a choice as the notion of humans being the author of our conscious thoughts. We’re not.The author writes:
”Do we really think it is of some comfort to the mother whose child just died of starvation to know that at least no one made much money in the failed effort to save her son?”Is this really a good argument for anything?We do have people in this world getting rich by making arbitrary decisions of who gets help or not, of who lives or dies. There are also those who think it is their god given right to enjoy extreme wealth, or that they got to their position using exceptional skill. Surely this is a problem, not a solution.
